Importance of Professional Societies
In a series of studies conducted by the Center for the Advancement of Health (CFAH), primary care clinicians from across the country were asked to identify their best sources of information about effective strategies to help their patients quit smoking, increase their physical activity, and change eating habits. There was widespread agreement that professional societies were the preferred source of such information and considered the most highly trusted transmitters of new knowledge.
Key characteristics of Professional Societies:
- Preferred and trusted source of information among primary care providers, their staff and patients
- Promote excellence in practice, education, professional development, research, patient care and quality of life among their constituents
- Provide practical tools and answers to questions important to their constituents
- Support and facilitate the dissemination of findings of innovations proven to make a difference
